Ariel Kalil, Ph.D.

Co-Director

Ariel Kalil is a professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, where she also directs the Center for Human Potential and Public Policy. She is a developmental psychologist who studies economic conditions, parenting, and child development. In addition to her work at the Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab (BIP Lab), her current research examines the historical evolution of income-based gaps in parenting behavior and children’s cognitive and non-cognitive skills.

Susan Mayer, Ph.D.

Susan Mayer, Ph.D.

Co-Director

Susan E. Mayer is a professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. She is an expert on the measurement of poverty, the effect of growing up in poor neighborhoods, and the effect of parental income on children’s well-being. In addition to her work at the Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab (BIP Lab), she is engaged in a number of studies of intergenerational economic mobility.

Keri Lintz, MPP

Keri Lintz, MPP

Executive Director

Keri Lintz is the Executive Director and Research Initiatives for the Center for Human Potential and Public Policy (CHPPP), which houses the BIP Lab. Keri brings a combined background in public policy administration and human service delivery. Prior to joining CHPPP, Keri worked as the state level program officer for five federal grant programs designed to promote healthy child development and address the policy areas of child welfare, mental health & substance abuse, and juvenile justice. Preceding her experience under two gubernatorial administrations, Keri completed a post-graduate program in Washington D.C. with the National Academy of Social Insurance. She holds an MPP and MSW and has direct practice experience in the fields of crisis intervention and child welfare.    

Paula Rusca,  MPH

Paula Rusca, MPH

Lab Manager

Paula Rusca is the Lab Manager for the BIP Lab where she coordinates field work activities and manages the lab’s research assistants. Paula grew up in Chicago and completed a Master of Public Health, Health Policy and Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health in 2016. While completing her MPH, Paula interned with the Chicago Department of Public Health, worked with AMOS Health and Hope in Managua, Nicaragua and traveled to Haiti to assist in a Community Participatory Based Disaster Risk Reduction Training. She has experience in community based participatory research, program validation, survey development and curriculum development for low literacy settings and experience working within a community empowerment model.

Michelle Michelini, MPP

Project Manager

Michelle Michelini is the Project Manager for the BIP Lab where she manages the development, implementation and data analytics of several of the lab’s research projects. Michelle brings to the lab experience in education research administration and data analysis as well as nonprofit and project management. She has her B.S. in Social Policy and Education from Northwestern University and a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Chicago’s Harris School. Prior to joining the BIP Lab, she has managed a nonprofit legal association, been a corporate account and student services manager, and supported research partnerships and data analysis at Chicago Public Schools and for other school clients.

Ana Arellano Jimenez

Ana Arellano Jimenez

Research Coordinator

Ana Arellano Jimenez is the Research Coordinator for the BIP Lab. Ana brings to the Lab a range of experience in community engagement, marketing communications, and data analysis. Prior to joining Harris, Ana was the project assistant for Whole Health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she led the website redesign project. Previously, she did community engagement for the City of Madison’s Planning Division on the Comprehensive Plan, where she also conducted data analysis. Ana holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Miguel Camacho

Miguel Camacho

Project Assistant

Miguel Camacho is the Project Assistant for the BIP Lab. Miguel was born and raised on Chicago’s Southwest side, eventually venturing to Urbana-Champaign to complete a Bachelor’s of Science and Liberal Arts from UIUC with a concentration in Psychology. He then transitioned to Northwestern Medicine, working as a Patient Access Specialist for over three years, providing exceptional service in the care of various patient populations.

William Delgado

William Delgado

Ph.D. Candidate

William Delgado is from Buenaventura, Colombia. He is currently a PhD candidate at The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, where he earned his M.P.P. degree. He also holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics from Universidad de los Andes. He is interested in understanding the causes and consequences of poverty and inequality, with a particular emphasis on human capital accumulation from early childhood. In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, biking, and traveling.

Rohen Shah

Rohen Shah

Ph.D. Student

Rohen Shah is a Ph.D. student at The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. He received his B.S. in Mathematics and Economics, as well as an M.A. in Math Education, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He was previously a high school and middle school math teacher in Detroit, and is a co-founder of the Ed Tech company DiagKNOWstics. He joined the BIP lab in the summer of 2018, and is interested studying how behavioral interventions can inform Education Policy.
